A Familiar Face, a New Perspective: The Longines Legend Diver, Reimagined for 2025

There is a certain kind of watch that earns its place not through shock and awe, but through staying power.  The Longines Legend Diver is one of them.  First introduced in 1959, it was never about out-muscling the competition — it was about refinement under pressure, both literally and figuratively.  In the decades since, it’s become a quiet constant: a watch with a story worth revisiting.

In 2025, Longines revisits that story with three new takes on the Legend Diver.  At first glance, they may seem like subtle variations — an arresting matte white dial and two new rubber strap options in blue and black — but they speak to something deeper: how a classic can keep evolving while staying true to itself.

The standout is, without question, the new model with a white dial.  It is not just white — it is matte, bright, almost architectural.  Set against the familiar 39mm stainless-steel case, the high-contrast dial plays host to long indexes, crisp Arabic numerals, and bold arrow hands finished in satinated black and pale green, all coated in Super-LumiNova®.  The effect is clean, legible, and quietly commanding.  The white-dial diver has long been a rare breed, and this one brings a fresh sense of purpose to the category.

It comes on a stainless-steel bracelet with polished “beads of rice” center links — a nod to vintage form, updated with modern practicality.  The micro-adjustable folding clasp ensures comfort, whether over a wetsuit or under a cuff.

Meanwhile, two familiar faces return: the lacquered black and blue dial versions of the Legend Diver.  But this time, they arrive on matching rubber straps.  It is a small but significant change.  Rubber straps make these watches feel more dynamic, more wearable in the day-to-day — even if you never take them diving. The straps are fitted with a traditional diver pin buckle and feel right at home on a watch that balances mid-century charm with modern performance.

And make no mistake — this is a thoroughly modern diver.  Like its predecessors, the Legend Diver features an internal rotating bezel operated by the second crown at 2 o’clock.  This detail, lifted straight from the original Super-Compressor models of the ’50s and ’60s, isn’t just a visual signature; it is a clever solution to the problem of accidental bezel movement.  The internal bezel keeps the profile sleek and safe from knocks.

The case is water-resistant to 300 meters and, as of this latest generation, ISO 6425-certified as a professional diver’s watch.  Inside beats the Longines calibre L888.6, a COSC-certified chronometer with a silicon balance spring, anti-magnetic protection exceeding ISO standards, and a healthy 72-hour power reserve.

The Legend Diver’s story has been unfolding for over 60 years.  From military roots and vintage charm to its current place as a cornerstone of Longines’ Heritage collection, it continues to evolve — not loudly, not radically, but with quiet confidence.

There is something to be said for a design that doesn’t need to shout.  The 2025 Legend Diver doesn’t reinvent anything.  Instead, it reminds us why we cared in the first place — and gives us a few new reasons to keep paying attention.
